Charging speed is fundamentally limited by two factors: ionic diffusion (how fast lithium ions can move through the electrolyte) and thermal management (how quickly you can remove the heat generated by that movement). Push too hard and you get lithium plating — metallic deposits on the anode that permanently reduce capacity.
